Thwart Unwanted Changes To Hyperlinks In Word 2003

It is easy for other people to accidentally change hyperlinks in your Word document. When you add a hyperlink, readers have to hold down the CTRL key and click the link to go to the Web site. To edit the link, all you have to do is click inside it and make your changes. Knowing this, you can see how easy it would be for another user to accidentally change a hyperlink.

You can minimize the chances of this happening by switching the way hyperlinks are edited and activated. Instead of holding down the CTRL key to activate a link, users would only need to click on it. Then to edit the link, you would need to hold down the CTRL key as you click on it.

To change the default setting:

  1. Within Word, click Options from the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Edit tab.
  3. From the available Editing options, clear the Use CTRL + click to follow hyperlink option.
  4. Click OK.
