Word makes it easy for you to create tables that have a professional look to them. You can manually format your tables or you can apply one of the built-in table formats that are included in Word.
To apply a format to a table in Word 2003, complete the steps described below:
- Click anywhere within your table.
- From the Table menu, click Table AutoFormat.
- Click through the list of Table Styles and select the one you want to apply.
- At the bottom of the window select the table elements you want to apply the formatting to.
- Click Apply.

Disappointing; Using Word AutoFormat is what you get from the Word help files. I go to the net for more advanced help like, in this specific case, how to customize the formatting of each cell which is difficult to dig out of Word help. I don’t think much effort went into this tip.
