The purpose of the Temporary Internet Files folder is to speed up browsing on the Internet. However, this folder can consume disk space. If you are not too concerned with performance in terms of browsing, you can have the contents of this folder deleted automatically each time you close the browser. You can do so by using the following steps:
- Open Internet Explorer.
- Click Internet Options from the Tools menu.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- From the list of settings, locate the option to Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed. This option is located under the security section.
- Place a check beside this option to enable it.
- Click OK.

Cool. What about earlier versions of IE?
mm.. I haven’t found anything for that. The only left option is to do it manually: go to “X:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\” and delete everything.
