YouRipper

We all like to save our favorite videos from YouTube and other video sharing Web sites like it. There are a dozen or two different ways you can get the job done as well. One of the easiest ones I have found comes from Remlapsoftware.com and is called YouRipper.

Obviously getting its name from YouTube, YouRipper allows you to save and store flash videos from the Web to your own personal computer. The fun does not stop there though.

YouRipper is a small, easy to use utility which enables the end-user to download videos from the major video sharing Web sites such as YouTube. YouRipper also enables Webmasters, bloggers, and MySpace hosts to embed videos from YouTube, etc. into their own pages, using a generic, fully customizable video player.

The program is totally free, and the only annoying thing about it is the nags for donations. On the good side though, it is compact and for the most part does stay out of my way. At present time it has support for the following Web sites as well:

  • YouTube
  • Google Video
  • MySpace
  • Daily Motion
  • Guba

What if this isn’t your cup of tea? Well, then I will suggest you check out one of my favorite Firefox extensions, the VideoDownloader. It is also free - and pretty handy if you are using Firefox.

Mitch, I have tried YouRipper & my experience has been that it fails to work as advertised the majority of the time on YouTube [after failed experience w/YouTube, I haven't tried any of the other sources listed.]. I have a very slow dial-up connection w/no broadband currently available [e.g. no cable, or DHL or cell-phone access available @ this location & satellite reception blocked by mtn. ridge.]. So I went looking several mns ago for a program that would allow me to download streaming video [e.g. YouTube, etc.] that I could then replay in real time w/o start/stop interuptions I have while live streaming; unfortunately, YouRipper usually failed to download & ‘bombed -out’ most of the time & was only rarely succsseful. Do you know of any other alternatives that would work better w/my dial-up scenario? I am running WinXP SP2 w/IE-7. Thank you, BWH

How about a youRipper for the Mac?

Cheers for the good words about YouRipper, it’s much appreciated.

I am planning an upgrade to YouRipper which should be available shortly after Easter; offering several groovy new features involving PSP’s, iPods and Cell-Phones.

In response to the other comments:

Brian…
Drop me an email to robert@remapsoftware.com and I’ll gladly try and put a special build together for you which will work with your set up.

Joe…
Sorry, no plans for a Mac version. It’s a question of time and I just never have enough.

Anyway, cheers folks and thank you again Mitch.

Rob

Sorry Brian, I really should check my typing before hitting ‘post’. The email address should read robert@remlapsoftware.com

Cheers

I’ve been trying to download from YouTube using iTube but on several of the videos I get “Failed to download…” Can anyone help? Have them encrypted some kind of anti-download? Is there a way to get around that? Different download software? Thanks! Scout

VideoDownloader extension uses script from site and have huge load. It can be slow or not working sometimes.

Yours trying is over!

Here is one easy way to download videos from youtube (if you using firefox):
-install Ook? Video Ook! extension https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2584
-restart firefox and you will have new icon in the left-down corner
-open video page on youtube and wait that icon turns white and click on it.

Enjoy!

You-ripper does not mention in its description that it contains dropdowns to access pornchanels. So I was going to just remove it.But it will not remove..through its own uninstall program. It comes back at reboot. My first email to Remlap was ignored and the reply to the second one was filled with Robert swearing at me and calling me an idiot.I wouldn’t have written them at all except that I wanted to try their other products. I figured that they could at least help me with this one and that would be that.
Palmer is gracious when it comes to compliments, but an ass when his product has issues.I did find another product.

how would i know if youripper is really working.. where can i find the downloaded youtube videos

I use Real Player 11, it gets the job done pretty well.
