Rename The Administrator Account In Vista

Why not make it more difficult for hackers and rename the local Administrator account? Doing so will stop some amateur hackers cold and will annoy the more determined ones. If you do decide to rename the account, try not to use the word Admin in its name. Pick something that won’t sound like it has rights to anything.
You can rename the Administrator account in Vista using the steps listed below.
- Click Start and click Control Panel.
- Click System and Maintenance, Administrative Tools and then the Local Security Policy.
- Within the console, expand Local Policies.
- Click Security Options. The various security options are displayed in the details pane.
- Double click Accounts: Rename Administrator Account.
- Type in the new account name and Click OK.

I have the same problem. There’s no way to do it the way you’ve described.

Actually, there’s a much easier way to do this. Just find ‘computer’ on your start menu, desktop, windows explorer - depending on how you’ve set up your preferences.
Right click on it - go to manage - expand Local Users and Groups - click on Users in the left pane - in the right pane, right click on Administrator and click ‘rename’

The method works on Enterprise… it may be that it’s unavailable on Home Premium and or Home Basic.

Yeah it wont work for home premium because home edition is not made for the advanced user.. you need to have business, or ultimate. But i heard you can change the policies in premium with a policy editor program…
P.S. you should enable the REAL admin account on your PC and then rename it to whatever you want..
Here is how to enable the real admin account:

But make SURE you password it once you do it.. and i would only recommend a very advanced user to do this. In real admin mode you wont get those annoying UAC prompts everytime you want to go the bathroom!
Have fun and be careful

While attempting to open a web site, the site says that internet explorer cannot open site and the following messgae appears”You are not currently logged into your computer as an administrator, this installer requires the user to be logged in as an administrator. Please log out and log back in as an administrator then restart the installer”. What gives?? What do I do?
