Create A Network Shortcut

Posted by on Feb 23, 2007 | 2 Comments

Mapping network drives are a popular way of quickly accessing network resources. They appear as drive letters in Windows Explorer and clicking on one connects you to the computer on the network hosting the resource. This is much easier than having to locate the resource using the My Network Places icon.

And here is another way you can quickly access network shares, other than mapping a drive. So another trick you can use is to create a shortcut to them on your desktop. Any time you need access to the share, all you have to do is double click the shortcut to the share on your desktop. To create a network shortcut, locate the share on the network and drag it to your desktop and choose the option to Create shortcut here. Accessing the share is then as simple as clicking the shortcut you just created on your desktop.

    Hello
This is a question to Diane Huggins, on the shortcuts & Mapping
Is there a difference between the two when exposed to a .xls file
shared by multiple users.I am refering to the saving process. My question is: isn’t a shortcut to a file on a server slower then a direct Maped drive to the same file?Or i am over reacting?
