Prevent Last Logon Name From Being Displayed In Vista

There are many small steps you can take to secure your computer. One way is to configure your computer so it does not display the username of the last user to log on. This way if someone wants to attempt to log on as you, not only do they have to figure out your password but they also have to figure out the correct username.

You can configure this security option in Windows Vista through the Local Security Policy as described below.

  1. Within the Control Panel, click System and Maintenance.
  2. Click Administrative Tools then the Local Security Policy.
  3. Within the console, expand Computer Configuration | Windows Settings | Security Settings | Local Policies.
  4. Click Security Options.
  5. In the details pane, scroll through the options and locate Interactive logon: Do not display last user name.
  6. Double click this security option and click Disabled.
  7. Click OK.

The next time you log on to your computer, the last user name will no longer be displayed.

You need to set the above policy to ‘Enabled’ not ‘Disabled’ to prevent the last user logged on to display

Great, but I have the opposite problem. I need it to display the username and it won’t. I’ve checked the above setting and it’s disabled… Any thoughts on how to get it to remember?
