There are plenty of services that enable you to search for textual content on the Internet, but the market isn’t as flooded when it comes to audio and video search solutions. You see, text is relatively easy to parse and manipulate, but the same cannot be said for audio and video, and this makes searching for it more complicated. Unless specific names and tags are attached to the content, you’re probably going to have a harder time finding it. Several companies have set out to improve how we search for video, and one of them is Blinkx.
One of the first things that you’ll notice when you visit the Blinkx Web site is the video wall that shows short clips of twenty-five videos all at once. It may be information overload, but it sure is fun to watch. When you really think about it, shouldn’t any video search site support video thumbnails just like Blinkx does? A static picture just doesn’t cut it when you’re dealing with video. The engine pulls videos together from a bunch of different content providers, and it links you to the original content while also allowing you to preview many of the selections right on the site.
