Sproose

My Web browsing habits have changed quite substantially over the past year or two. My primary method of discovery used to be involved with using a search engine to track down content that was related to what I was looking for, but there’s been a social evolution of content discovery lately, and I find myself discovering new things mostly from bloggers, Digg, and a variety of other sources that are backed by people rather than machines. Of course, searching can be social too, and Sproose is helping to make that statement a reality.

Sproose may be a social search engine, but it’s also deeply rooted as a social network in the sense that users can have personal profiles and create discussion forums around any entry in the index, which is super cool. After some research and follow-through action on some of the links suggested by Sproose, you should then have a good feeling for how you can rate the material that you checked out, and you can easily cast a vote from 1-5 stars on any Web site so that the search results can be organized according to what information is potentially the most helpful. Their initial search results aren’t great, and you’ll probably end up spending more time than you bargained for in finding relevant content, but with enough voting, this could begin to change… a little bit.

seems that they have now a new vote model (no more stars)
