Virtual Laser Keyboard - The Future Has Arrived

Watching CSI the other night, I was totally amazed at this gadget. My first thought was: “NO WAY!” My next thought was: “How can it work?” And the next thought? “I want one!” I must admit, though, it did make me feel quite a bit older.
I know that when I was younger and my dad would always tell me about the “good old days,” I swore that I would never do that to my kids. And you guessed right: I am doing that. I keep on telling my kids I am pre-fax, not that they understand - might as well tell them that, yes, I do remember the dinosaurs.
Anyway, the “make you feel old” gadget that I am talking about is the Bluetooth Laser Virtual Keyboard. This tiny device laser-projects a keyboard on any flat surface… you can then type away accompanied by simulated key click sounds.
Okay, it sounds incredible - I could just imagine sitting at a coffee shop and whipping out my laser keyboard - wow, can you imagine the stares? But still, how does this technology work?
About the size of a small cellular phone, (90 x 34 x 24 mm), the Virtual Laser Keyboard enables users to type texts or e-mails as easily as with an ordinary keyboard.
The Virtual Keyboard uses a light projection of a full-sized computer keyboard on almost any surface.
VKB’s adaptable technology studies the user’s finger movements to interpret and record keystrokes. Because the virtual keyboard is an image projected by light, it disappears completely when not in use.

Great idea, but useless for those of us who have long ago switched to ergonomic keyboards, AKA “Natural Keyboards”. It would seem a relatively simple task to split the projection lens to approximate the ergonomic layout.
If this were done, I could finally buy a laptop and use the Virtual Keyboard
vs. the cramped and rearranged layout of portables!
