Dropbox is a very handy tool to move files between your devices. I have 3 Operating Systems installed on one computer, so using Dropbox, I can transfer important/often used files to each one.

My suggestion if you got the know how or the will just build it yourself. cost is in most cases can varry from a little cheaper to a little more expensive for hihger quality parts than you would get from a name brand. honestly its not as hard as some would have you believe. most of the instructions come with the parts. with all the warnings and tips. it takes a little reading but its not rocket science and youll end up with a better system. no matter what your price range is if you look for the sales on those parts you will end up with a computer that will kick a name brands ass literally.

A custom built PC does give you more options than an off the shelf brand, but at a much higher cost than the 10-20% you suggest. unless you're saying you can can get the equivalent of a $500 off the shelf "big box" retailer system custom built for between $550-600, or an $800 system for between $880-960. There's also no guarantee that the custom PC is going to have more "up to date" components than off the shelf boxes. The custom PC can have all the necessary patches and updates installed for you, but that adds to the cost. Foe those who can do it themselves, the cost is virtually nil. Finally, I don't think that the small storefront shops have any claim to better quality, at least in my experience. If you have a problem, online tech support can be frustrating, but you usually don't find them trying to run up the bill by attempting to sell you parts or services you don't need.
