Computer Classes On Our Honeymoon

On our cruise to Alaska, I remarked how they were wasting computer lab space by not offering basic classes to passengers (aboard a Holland America liner). Regent Seven Seas Cruises is doing it! I should poke my head in just to see how well it goes, although I doubt anybody would recognize me as a geek. I should ask silly questions just to blend in and gain street cred with the n00bz. We’re aboard the Seven Seas Voyager for the next week and a half, and I’m already having a fantastic time - as clearly evidenced in today’s blog entries. Having WiFi access from my own suite is certainly sweet, indeed.
So, this is our honeymoon - and I don’t know if I would have imagined it any differently. Actually, we were originally planning on hitting a country in Europe, but Ponzi wanted something a bit warmer - like the Caribbean. Since I’m not a travel geek, I much prefer the comfort of a cruise ship. Seems that wireless Internet access, while not free, is finally a more widely-available amenity. I can’t be online all the time, but having some kind of on-ramp puts me in a comforted state of mind. I have no doubt they’re blocking Skype ports, but I might try having my parents sign up for Google Talk or something. Oceanic VoIP to the rescue!
I wish I had packed my binoculars, though. Regent didn’t furnish a complementary unit (unlike Holland America). Just before leaving, I started to research Canon’s “image stabilizer” line of binoculars - which would have come in handy at sea, I’m sure. I left my new HD video camera at home, too - I really didn’t want anything to happen to it. We’ll capture as many memories as possible with my trusty Canon PowerShot SD 700 IS. Pocket tech is a “must” when you plan on moving around a lot. At least my wife embraces technology for how it improves her own lifestyle - and that she’s allowing me to get online during our honeymoon!
