Place A Shortcut To The Run Command On The Vista Desktop

Posted by on Dec 26, 2006 | 4 Comments

When you want to launch the Run command in Vista, you have to do using the Search function on the Start Menu. This is not all that difficult or time consuming but a lot of people will miss not seeing the command on the Start Menu. In a previous tip, I outlined how to put the Run command back on the Start Menu in Vista. However, an alternative option is to place a short cut to the Run command directly on the desktop or Quick Launch toolbar.

To accomplish this, click the Start Menu and type Run in the Search field. Click the Run command and while holding down your mouse button, drag it onto your desktop or onto the Quick Launch toolbar. I prefer to place the shortcut on the Quick Launch toolbar to avoid a cluttered desktop. In any case, a shortcut will now be available for the command.

I have Vista Home Premium. This idea did not work for me. Doing it only made the run window come up – no icon was there for me to drag any place.
