Inside the MachineAvira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic reliably protects your private computer against dangerous viruses, worms, Trojans and costly dialers.

More than 15 million users worldwide trust in the reliable protection of Avira AntiVir. And this is no coincidence at all: Avira has gained several awards. The product combines first-class detection rates and ease of use with a top performance that protects your computer safely and hardly burdens older PCs.

I have been a faithful user of Avira since the days when it was called BEDV, even upgrading to the paid Premium version last year (2005) BUT NO MORE.

Following a normal automatic update, all access to my ISP email servere was unavailable. My ISP support team got to know me VERY well as we worked through all their “fixes” leading eventually to a complete format hard drive and re-install of everything (no something to enjoy with 2 websites to maintain). Even then the problem remained – this called for slow methodical un-install one by one all applications and test for email access.

Would’nt you know it, the last item uninstalled (because of my paranoia about internet greebies) was Avira Premium – problem solved.

A visit to the Avira forum confirmed that this is pretty common problem experienced by Avira users.

An email to Avira eventually drew a response suggesting a watch on Avira forums for a “work-around”.

This is bullshit of the foulest order and have lead me to not recommend Avira to any of our Computer Club members – shame because up until mid 2006, this product performed extremely well.

    End of rant.

Have been using AntiVir for just about as long as Bromm Crass, but
I have continued to use the Classic/Freeware version of the Product.

It has ONE little quirk with “Zone Alarm (free version)” at times.
BUT overall…. I have had NO problems with it. I NOT only recommend
this product, but I put it on ALL my families PCs and ALL the PCs I work on.

    BTW…. I build PCs for a LIVING.
