Working With Indents In Word (Part V)

  • No Related Post

In this final installment we’re going to look at hanging indents. With this type of indent, the second and subsequent lines of a paragraph are indented more than the first line. Hanging Indents are commonly used for numbered and bulleted lists.

To create a hanging indent:

  1. Select the paragraph that you want to create the hanging indent for.
  2. Verify that the horizontal ruler is displayed across the top of your document. If it is not, click the Ruler option from the View menu.
  3. Locate the Hanging Indent marker on the horizontal ruler. Drag it to the position where you want the indent to start.

Alternatively, you can also use the paragraph dialog box to set the hanging indent. Once you have selected the appropriate paragraph, click the Paragraph option from the Format menu. Select the Indents and Spacing tab. Under Indentation, click the drop down arrow below Special and select Hanging. Use the up and down arrows to set the amount of indentation. Click OK to save your changes.
