Yoople!
Without search engines, all of us would have a much harder time trying to find new information. I’ve found that as time goes on, I rely more and more upon blogs to stay informed about new content and Web sites, but with that said, search engines are still (and always will be) invaluable discovery tools. As has been discussed before, one of the shortcomings of some search engines is that they lack the human touch. A machine may be able to do a fairly good job of deciding the prioritized order of what I want to see on a certain subject, but social collaboration also has a lot of power. With Yoople!, you can make the search results work for you.
Let’s face it – sometimes search engine results aren’t ordered in the way that personally appeals to you. For example, maybe you found the eighth result to be more relevant than the first? Well, by using Yoople!, you can easily reorder the results by dragging and dropping them as you see fit. The initial result data is powered by Yahoo!, but once things start moving around, Yoople! keeps track of the position and number of movements for each result. If more people join in on arranging the data in a similar way that you are, then the results that you favor could start working their way up in the index. It’s a cool idea, but it needs better implementation and navigation.
