Working With Indents In Word (Part I)

Posted by on Dec 11, 2006 | 6 Comments

Several Lockergnome readers have asked for help with indenting paragraphs in Word. There are a few different ways that text can be indented, depending on what you want to indent.

For example, you can increase or decrease the indent of an entire paragraph. Increasing or decreasing the left indent of a paragraph is a simple two-step process.

  1. Select the paragraph you want to indent.
  2. From the Formatting toolbar click Increase Indent or Decrease Indent button.

If the formatting toolbar is not visible, click the View menu, point to Toolbars and click Formatting. When one of the indent buttons is selected, Word will change the indent by one tab stop.

If your rulers are displayed, you can also simply drag the left indent to wherever you want it. Click anywhere in the paragraph to position the cursor there, then drag the Left Indent along the ruler.

The Left Indent is the small rectangle just below the two triangle-shaped indicators on the horizontal ruler. (The top triangle is for First Line Indent, the bottom one for Hanging Indent).

You can use CNTL to select multiple paragraphs to format at the same time.

I usually just prefer massive construction projects. A lot of these mini-game maps are pretty interesting, I just don’t care to try them.
