The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D

I finally saw The Nightmare Before Christmas! Well, kinda. I’ve watched the movie a thousand times on TV, but a local theater is currently showing it on the big screen in 3D! They hand you a pair of linear polarized 3D glasses and let you experience Tim Burton’s classic the way it was meant to be experienced. I can’t imagine watching TNBC any other way from this point forward. No doubt, it was the most tastefully-crafted three-dimensional film I’ve ever seen. Check your local listings! Don’t write this one off, my friends - if you don’t mind.
For The Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D, Industrial Light and Magic, in collaboration with In-Three, Inc., has broken new ground in bringing depth and dimension to what was originally a 2-D film. For the first time, the unique and stylish movements of stop-motion animation have been transformed from a flat world into something deeper.
I’ve been a Nightmare fan for years, having missed the original theatrical release (instead, enjoying it for the first time in VHS format on a 13″ television screen). I eventually created Skellingtonbats, a dingbats font with movie character silhouettes. Quality images weren’t readily available, however - and the TTF didn’t come out as clean as I would have hoped. From Disney’s official TNBC 3-D site, I browsed to the new album’s site - which contains a preview of the remixed soundtrack (including demos and covers). Imagine my surprise when I found the loading graphic a shadow of the Jack Skellington profile I resampled a few years ago. Trust me, I know how muddy those glyphs are. It’s so incredibly cool that they didn’t come after me, but used Skellingtonbats to create this Web experience for other fans. Awesome.
