Implement A Password Protected Screen Saver Through Group Policy In Vista

Posted by on Oct 26, 2006 | 2 Comments

One of the ways that you can increase security on your computer is to password protect your screen saver. Once the screen saver kicks in on your computer, you must type in your password to return to the desktop. You can configure this security feature through the Display properties dialog box or you can configure the Local Computer Policy using the Group Policy editor.

  1. Press the Windows + R keystrokes to open the Run command.
  2. Type in gpedit.msc and click OK.
  3. Expand User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Control Panel.
  4. Click the Display container.
  5. In the Details pan, double click Password protect the screen saver.
  6. Click Enabled.
  7. Click OK.

I have never been able to run GPEDIT.MSC from vista home premium. Of course at work on a DC I can run it, but i need to set screen saver policy at home for the kids because they are restricted and cannot do it themselves.

    Thanks,
