Unsigned drivers can wreak havoc on a computer causing instability, different error messages, and boot problems. If such problems are occurring on your computer, you may want to find out if there are any unsigned drivers installed on your PC.
You can use the Signature Verification tool included with Windows Server 2003 to quickly and easily identify such drivers.
- Click Start and click Run.
- Type sigverif and click OK.
- Click Advanced.
- Click Look for other files that are not digitally signed.
- In the Look in this folder field, type c:\Windows\system32\drivers.
- Click the Logging tab.
- Verify that the Save the file signature verification results to a log file option is checked.
- Click OK.
- Click Start.
Once complete, you can open the Sigverif.txt file in the Windows folder. Any unsigned drivers will be displayed in the file as ‘Not Signed’. If you are troubleshooting, you can start disabling each of the unsigned drivers one by one using Device Manager.
