Did you know Britney Spears was an expert in a rather specialized science?

Today’s Family First site is called Britney’s Guide to Semiconductor Physics. Here’s its mission in a nutshell:

It is a little known fact that Ms. Spears is an expert in semiconductor physics. Not content with just singing and acting, in the following pages, she will guide you in the fundamentals of the vital laser components that have made it possible to hear her super music in a digital format.

But seriously, folks…

The site is a lighthearted look at the physics behind those chips that make everything that is electronic work. There are photos and “commentary” from Britney sprinkled throughout the site. But it really is a fine primer for a very complicated subject.

It also pays due homage to a Hollywood starlet who really WAS an accomplished scientist. Austrian born Hedy Lamarr, whose most noted quote was “Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid,” was in reality a gifted electrical engineer. There is a very nice bio of her here.

So if you’re having trouble digesting radiative recombination, photonic crystals, or photolithography, let Britney give you a helpful hand!
