Do you have a Gmail account? If not, why not?
I received mine in 2004. It was love at first sight. Not only did I get a gigabyte of space (that has been bumped up to two gigs since then), but I also had an account accessible via pop3! That meant I could use Thunderbird to download my messages.
I have grown to depend on my Gmail account. It’s nice having backup copies of every email I’ve sent in the last two years. It’s also nice to have about the most feature-laden Web mail interface around.
But that only scratches Gmail’s surface. The power of the program is such that you need help finding out just what all it will do.
That’s where today’s Family First site shines. It’s called Gmail Tips.
It’s actually one section of Jim’s Tips. We’ll likely cover other sections in the Google Deskbafuture.
So what sorts of cool stuff can you learn here? Well, for one, there are a plethora of keyboard shortcuts that you can use in the Web interface. By turning them on, you can compose a new message by hitting c. / puts your cursor in the search bar. ! Marks a message as spam. There are a whole lot more.
Install the Google Deskbar and you get a minibrowser that you can use to quickly open your Gmail account in a window that automatically hides and can be accessed with a keyboard shortcut.
