When you install XP, many of the familiar desktop icons are hidden by default. Icons such as My Computer, My Documents, and My Network Places are no longer on the desktop as they were in Windows 2000.
One of the first things you will likely want to do then after installing XP, is to restore these familiar desktop icons to their rightful place.
To restore your desktop icons:
- Right click an area of empty space on the desktop and click Properties.
- Click the Desktop tab.
- Click the Customize Desktop button.
- Select the icons you want added to your desktop.
- Click OK.
- Click OK to close the Desktop Properties windows.

Would like to have your comment on MSN’s recommended “PC Otimizer Pro” as compared to others on the market such as Registry Mechanic. Thank you.
