Family Edited DVDs

As I said yesterday, the ungainly dinosaurs that insist on making life as difficult as possible for the rest of movie and music fans, the MPAA and the RIAA, need to go. And go they will, although they are kicking and screaming in the courts as their inevitable demise nears. We don’t need corporate fatcat middlemen to grab a hefty share of the dollars we pay for music and movies.

Today’s Family First site offers a service that, for now, is legal. I’m sure the MPAA will have them in its sites next, after getting some Colorado judge to make a ridiculous ruling its way and putting a stop to Web sites offering family-safe edited DVDs.

The site is called Family Edited DVDs.

Here’s how it works: You have to purchase a copy of whatever DVD you want cleaned up. Once you do so, you are allowed to make an archived copy of the DVD. Yes, the MPAA says otherwise, and puts copy protection on to assure that you can’t, but YOU HAVE THE LEGAL RIGHT!

Family Edited DVDs makes your archive copy for you, cleaning out the objectionable content in the meantime.

It doesn’t require that you send in your original DVD, although it reserves the right to ask you to do so.

It makes me physically ill that worthless corporate entities like the MPAA file mindless lawsuits that prevent consumers like myself, who would prefer not to watch R-rated content, with a way to eliminate it. And that AFTER the MPAA gets its fair share with the purchase of the original DVD! I’m happy that there is still a site like today’s Family First pick, even though you are still required to buy the unedited DVD beforehand.
