Do Scientologists Own A Glacier?

After logging off from our Pluggd-sponsored connection yesterday, I returned to our stateroom to plug in and juice up - only to discover that we were approaching Hubbard glacier. This natural formation was, in a word, breathtaking. I know I keep saying it over and over again, but this trip to Alaska has been amazing. I’m not the kind of guy who loves living or hanging out in the great outdoors (neither is Ponzi, for that matter). Still, we have found ourselves enthralled with Holland America’s choice of destinations - if only for the ever-changing scenery. I couldn’t take my eyes off the glacier - it was just so beautiful. Ponzi wanted to see it from the upper deck, but I was perfectly content with our own room’s perspective (as the ship’s highest observation point is on the 10th floor, and we’re staying on 7). I believe our captain cut the engines early on, as I couldn’t hear the motor whirring as we drifted closer to the glacier. “Small” chunks of ice clicked and popped as we crossed through their waters, inching our way to the compressed formation of ice and snow. What a sight!

Ponzi suggested we grab lunch before too long, but I couldn’t be pried away from the scene. It wasn’t too long before I remembered that we had brought aboard a pair of 10×50 binoculars, perfect for viewing details from afar. Suddenly, the glacier was closer than I ever imagined possible. Again, Ponzi asserted her need for food - but I wouldn’t budge from our balcony. I didn’t want to waste a single second, as these experiences come along once (maybe twice) in a lifetime. When she pointed out that we had been wrapped up in Hubbard glacier for a couple of hours, I forced myself to go upstairs to the Ledo dining area and grab a bite to eat (next to a window, naturally). What felt like fifteen minutes turned out to be a few hours. Odd, as tech is typically the only “thing” that draws me in and diminishes my sense of time. I almost wish we could go back there this week. Who knew that frozen elements could be so… awesome? Pictures will never do it justice, but I’ll have ‘em online soon enough.

Gotta go. There’s so much more to see outside. Y’all gotta do this some day!
