“Iceberg Right Ahead!”

I’m not sure what day we’re on now? We started sailing on Saturday, floated up the coast on Sunday, overwhelmed Juneau yesterday, and… I guess that makes today the fourth day on Holland America’s Alaskan cruise on the Oosterdam. I wish they had Wi-Fi throughout the entire ship! Then again, perhaps it’s better that they shove geeks into specific areas so that other vacationers won’t be bothered by the sound of incoming mail and clacking keys. I was ready to try Skype yesterday, but when I went to download the client - the entire Skype ecosystem had been blocked by the ship’s proxy. Disappointing, but completely understandable - VoIP is very bandwidth-intensive. Nonetheless, I’ll continue to enjoy my Internet connection (courtesy of Pluggd). I don’t want to spend my minutes waiting for heavy pages to load, so I’m not able to provide a direct link to my accompanying blog posts yet. You know by now that Ponzi and I are in the middle of the Pacific ocean on a cruise ship - right?

We’re quickly approaching North America’s largest glacier, though I think we’ll be under the Captain’s “you can look, but you can’t touch” policy. Today, everybody’s hanging out on the cruise ship. I’m doing my best to sort through digital photos and chronicle our Alaskan adventures, while Ponzi’s upstairs getting a facial. Looks like I gave myself the short end of the stick! The weather has been cooperating, thankfully. It’s like someone replaced our horizon with a landscape postcard - I just can’t believe my eyes. I’m doing my best to capture everything I can, but… I just can’t do Mother Nature justice. If there’s one adventure you must take in your lifetime, let it be a cruise to Alaska. I don’t know if I could see this becoming an annual thing for us, but I’m certainly not going to refuse future opportunities to explore this part of the world. I’d much rather spend my morning looking at icebergs and glaciers than floating around in some sub-tropical wading pool. No, hot tubs are much more fun with snow-laden mountain ranges in the background.

More soon, my friends - from the high seas.
