Google Debuts The New Blogger
A couple of remarks…
First of all, I commented in my last column about Microsoft’s Windows Live Writer beta, which I’m using to compose this and like a lot. However, I may have misled you about the size of the program.
Live Writer itself is, indeed, a relatively small application – especially as apps from Redmond go – but that is only because it uses the .NET framework, which is anything but (about 60 MB on my PC). I alluded to that, but wasn’t clear about it. Folks who don’t have .NET will be prompted to download it.
In other news, this weekend Google released a beta of its new version of Blogger. It’s pretty impressive. You can get an account of your own here, and I’ve set up a test page here that you can look at if you like.
I remarked recently that Google needed to do something to catch up with WordPress and some of the Ajax-based blogging applications. Wish I could take credit for having forecast the debut of the new Blogspot, but there you go. I did OK with Writely, so I’ll have to rest on those laurels.
