Create Multiple Local GPOs In Windows Vista

Windows 2000 and XP only support a single local Group Policy Object (GPO). One of the really nifty features in Windows Vista is that you can create multiple local GPOs. This means that you can create local GPOs for different users that log on to the computer.

To create multiple local GPOs in Windows Vista:

  1. Click Start and click Run.

  2. Type mmc and click Enter.
  3. From the File menu, click Add/Remove Snap-in.
  4. Click the Group Policy Object Editor and click Add.
  5. Click the Browse button.
  6. Click the Users tab. All the local user accounts will be displayed.
  7. Select a user account and click OK. Repeat these steps for each user account you want to create a local GPO for.
  8. Click OK.

The console will display a local GPO for each user that you selected.
