Cruise Ship, Ahoy!

I’m not going on a “geek cruise,” so to speak - but my cruise time will be relatively geeked-out. There’s broadband connectivity on the designated Holland America cruise liner! I’ll be plugging away on an unplugged (wireless) connection, staying plugged into the Internet thanks to Pluggd. Yes, I offered simple sponsorship to anybody who could help us cover our connectivity costs next week - Pluggd responded. This means we’ll be able to post reports, photos, etc. directly from the high seas!
Expect to hear more about our daily adventures as they unfold, although I’m not expecting to upload many videos on this journey. I’m very thankful that Pluggd stepped forward to help, as Internet access on a cruise ship is VERY expensive. This is a unique opportunity for everybody, though. While I wish you could join us on the cruise, at least we can share our experiences with the entire world without having to wait. Plus, Pluggd gets to have their name (and link) stamped on every piece of media we put online for the duration of the excursion. I’ll be posting smaller updates to my personal space, most likely extending a few of the more prolific thoughts in the Lockergnome report.
Tonight, we have to finish packing for the trip. We’ve been on one other cruise before, though that one navigated the coastline of southern California (in a much warmer climate). The “Alaska ship” sets sail tomorrow afternoon from downtown Seattle, so it’s quite convenient for us. In case you were wondering, here’s our schedule:
- Sat: Arrive at terminal at 1:00pm
- Sat: Depart from terminal at 4:00pm
- Sun: All day, at sea
- Mon: Juneau from 11:00am to 9:00pm
- Tue: Hubbard Glacier from 12:00pm to 5:00pm
- Wed: Sitka from 7:00am to 6:00pm
- Thu: Ketchikan from 7:00am to 1:00pm
- Fri: Victoria from 6:00pm to 11:59pm
- Sat: Return to Seattle at 7:00am
I’m posting this time table largely because some of you may have “must see” suggestions for these various cities and spots. The only activity we really have scheduled is dogsledding on a glacier. Other than that, I think we’ll be doing a lot of lounging and general “doing nothingness” on the poop deck. Can I say that? I think I just did.
