For those of you who are not familiar with Windows Vista, it is Microsoft’s next desktop operating system that is soon to be released. As with previous versions of Windows, the operating system comes in several different flavors to meet the varying needs of home and business users.
There are two categories of Windows Vista platforms: Home and Business. The two categories are then broken down further, each with several different versions.
The Home category of Windows Vista will include the following versions:
- Vista Starter
- Vista Home Basic
- Vista Home Premium
- Vista Ultimate
The Business category of Windows Vista will include the following versions:
- Vista Business
- Vista Enterprise

After spending three days installing Vista 64 on my AMD64 3200+ system, I learned that very few companies are supporting Vista 64 (and not many more are ready for the 32bit version either). I had to run cables because my wireless sytem had no drivers, I was forced to use my inkjet because my laser printer company had no drivers and over half my software didn’t work. And this irritating UAS - why do I need to be protected from ME? To ad injury to insult, my system crawled because Vista had as many as 65 process running and using up to 800MB of RAM.
Out of frustration, I installed Vista32 and the services dropped to 40 and RAM used dropped to around 450MB. My system sped up considerably. Unfortunately, the driver issue remains. I thnk I’ll stick with XP Pro until all the ducks are in line for Vista.
The visualizations were cool but even my ATI 1600’s 512MB was tasked.
I have a son who works at Dell - these copies of Vista I installed are the same packages that have been released to major manufaturers for installation on their new systems, they were not the beta’s that have been out for months.
Thank you for your website and your advice - it’s been invaluable

I have Windows XP Professional. I used Partition Magic 8.0 to make another Partition for Vista. I installed Vista. Well when I did so Vista took over Drive letter C: and made itself the Boot Partition. So now I have two operating systems but only have access to one because XP Pro does not have a drive letter. I have VistaBootPro 3.1 and it wont let me assign a letter so that I can pick which partition I want to boot from. Microsoft refuses to help even though both of my copies are legal. I have Vista Ultimate. Please let me know if you can help.

I am new to Vista Home premium.
I tried to send two files attached to an email. They did not complete and now they are stuck there and I cannot send or receive any other emails. When I attempt to send or receive anything it stats to try and resend the original stuck messages. Help!
