The default setting for creating a new table in Word is 5 columns and two rows. I rarely ever create a table with 5 columns. Normally my columns have a maximum of two or three columns. However, each time I create a new table I have to adjust these settings. Then I discovered that I can tell Word to remember my table settings for next time.
To configure Word to remember your table dimensions:
- From the Table menu, point to Insert, and click Table.
- Configure the Table size settings that you want to use.
- Configure any additional table format settings.
- Click the Remember dimensions for new table option.
- Click OK.
The next time you insert a new table, Word will use the settings you configured in the steps above as the default table settings.
