Change The Text Direction In Drawing Objects

Text in drawing objects such as text boxes and callouts appears horizontally from left to right. Word allows you to change the orientation of text in drawing objects and tables so it appears differently that other text in your document. For example, you can have text in a text box appear vertically (up and down) instead of horizontally.

If you want to change the orientation of a specific block of text, place the text into a drawing object or table. You can then complete the steps listed below to change the orientation of the text:

  1. Click the drawing object or table cell that contains the text you want to change.

  2. From the Format menu, click the Text Direction option.
  3. Click the text orientation that you want to use.
  4. Click OK.
