I Hate Firefox and Thunderbird

No phrase in the English language will get me into more hot water than the one I opted to use as the headline for today’s report. You must understand that I wrote it to get your attention. Do I have your attention now? Great.
Yes, I realize that an increasing amount of people are using Firefox for Web browsing and Thunderbird for viewing email (as well as managing other information). I, however, am not a flyer of the Firefox flag. I support Mozilla’s efforts, but I don’t think their software is amazing… yet. And before you begin to criticize my choices, understand that I’m just as annoyed with IE7. I have Firefox installed on my machine, but the only time I use it is when I’m troubleshooting a Web page.
Recently, Thunderbird users have been seeing mis-Capitalized Words in Lockergnome newsletters. At first, I thought it was a random hiccup - but then more subscribers started to complain. The common thread between them was the Thunderbird client. Tonight will prove my sleuthing efforts successful or void, as I believe I’ve identified the problem and fixed it. If not, then it’s back to the drawing board - back to trying to fix a problem that I inadvertently created. But is it really my problem, or is it the email client’s issue in the first place?
What I object to most is the attitude that some people take in thinking that Firefox and Thunderbird are infallable - that they’re natively superior to existing choices. That’s simply not true, and I know I’m going to catch rudabegas for coming out and stating that open source software can be just as crappy as proprietary software. The truth is: I love Firefox and Thunderbird for what they’re doing to this market segment. Would I use them daily? No. Would I recommend that others make the switch? Sure. But do I think they’re amazing? Heck no.

So. Throw out Firefox and IE7, what do you have left? Navigator? Opera? Safari? What do you say is THE browser to use?

i used to love firefox but i am beginning
to hate it with a passion.
there are sites that are not
firefox friendly and
multiply.com is one of them.
i can’t go to multiply in firefox
because firefox and windows
will crash.
i have checked and rechecked
every program on my computer
and i am doing nothing different
than before.
i have also found out that
other people are having the
same problem in multiply.

I have hated firefox since the days when Windows XP was still Service Pack 1. All those images started to spring up claiming IE was horrible, allowed spyware into systems and that firefox was the only safe choice. Then XP Service Pack 2 hit and all those exploits were patched. No more spyware (yes I realize spyware changed to infect SP2 machines, but come on it was rare).
Now I’ve landed a chance to actually use Internet Explorer 8 and I’ll say its great. Plenty of kick ass new things and I cannot wait to see how it’ll be when its released.

The one thing that makes IE7 better than FireFox is that you can open a new tab with one click–even when there’s only one tab open.

What are you on about? Firefox is by far the best browser. I never open IE before, I even go to IE only sites by switching the engine in Firefox. Haven’t seen an IE window in years. Oh yeah, and the inbuilt spell checker is awesome.

I am beginning to HATE Firefox, By trying to be standards compliant I am looking for ways to run flash and validate my pages. Researching code on A list apart I have found several ways to handle flash. the issue?
No matter what I do even the simplest flash script will stop working after two or three days.
I mean “get URL”, allowScriptAccess param will solve for a few days. Today I emptied my cache and Viola all of a sudden a link began working.
This is absurd and no matter what delivery method I use they always and consistently work in IE on a PC Firefox on a PC Safari on Mac etc… But Firefox just gives up.
I have never in 15 years had to recode pages just so a link in a flash movie will work and don’t even get me going on forms.
Thanks for the rant but FF stinks.
