Adjust IE’s Pop-up Blocker Filter Level (XP SP2)

One of the changes you will notice when you install Service Pack 2 for Windows XP is the Pop-up Blocker included with Internet Explorer. As the name would imply, it is designed to stop those pesky pop-ups from appearing on your computer.

The filter level of the Pop-up Blocker determines the sensitivity level. For example, if you change the filter level to High, more pop-ups will be blocked. By default, the Pop-up Blocker will allow some pop-ups to appear. If you want more pop-ups blocked all you have to do is increase the filter level as described below.

  1. Within Internet Explorer, click Internet Options from the Tools menu.

  2. Select the Privacy tab.
  3. Click the Settings button under the Pop-up Blocker section.
  4. Click the drop down arrow under Filter Level and select the level you want to use. You can choose High, Medium, or Low.
  5. Click Close.
  6. Click OK to save your changes.
