Prevent Envelope From Appearing In Notification Area

When you receive a new email message in Outlook 2003, a small envelope appears in the notification area. This is one of the notification methods Outlook uses to alert you to new email. If you frequently check your Inbox for messages and do not require a notification, you can prevent Outlook from displaying the envelope.
- Within Outlook, click Options from the Tools menu.
- Select the Preferences tab.
- Click the E-mail Options button.
- Click the Advanced E-mail Options button.
- Remove the check beside the Show an envelop icon in the notification area.
- Click OK.
