Sometimes you need to take a closer look at things to better understand what they are about. The default magnification program in Windows is not exactly use friendly, and doesn’t offer much in the features department. I have a replacement for you. Xoomer is a light and free choice when it comes to getting in close with your desktop environment.

Here is what the author of Xoomer has to say about it:

Xoomer is a fully resizable magnification program that displays current cursor location as well as RGB and HEX color information of the current pixel. The Smart Update feature only updates the display when the mouse is moved. It is fully resizable - make it as big or as small as you need. The current pixel is outlined in a red rectangle for easy placement.

Some of the other features include: bottom band displays the current pixel color in a larger area, various magnification factors from 1/2 up to 30x, right-click menu allows easy zooming and configuration and more.

There are some keyboard shortcuts to help you use the program as well. The +/- keyboard keys can be used to make it zoom in and out. The space or enter keys can be used to pause or resume screen updates. Last but not least, the CTRL-C key combination can be used to copy color information to the clipboard.

The interface is very nice and basic as well. Check out this screenshot to judge for yourself.

As you can see, this program is a little more useful than your standard magnification programs out there today. The best part about it is you get all these neat features for free.
