A booklet generally has a book fold down the center. Word allows you to create a document with a book fold so it resembles an actual booklet. It is generally easier to open a new document and then create the book fold, although it is possible to add the book fold to an existing document.
To add a book fold to a blank document:
- Open blank document.
- From the File menu, click Page Setup.
- Verify that the Margins tab is selected.
- Use the drop down arrow beside Multiple Pages to select Book fold. Notice that Word automatically switches to Landscape orientation.
- You can use the Inside and Outside boxes to configure how much space you want for the inside and outside margins.
- Use the Gutter box to specify how much space you want along the book fold.
- Use the drop down arrow beside the Sheets per booklet to specify how many pages you want in your booklet.
- Click OK.

How do you add a book fold to an already existing document? I am working on a book that is 140 numbered pages. How do I add a bookfold and make sure the page numbers are consecutive. For instance, page 5 might be on the same page as 140 on the other side of the document.
