Video gaming has gone from a casual distraction to a blockbuster industry that entices all ages in a very short amount of time. When you think of video games these days, you probably think of the mega-super-huge franchises such as Halo, Zelda, and so on. True, those titles do have a lot of money behind them, and they do have a lot of staying power, but do you remember the good old days? Those were the days when smaller independent publishers could create simple shareware games and make a modest living off of the sales. I remember playing a bunch of those games about ten years ago, but the shiny new consoles and big game publishers have slowly made me forget about the one-man gaming operation. GameTrove.net helps us to remember the little guy by giving them a place to showcase their work.
Typically, publishers spend millions of dollars to promote their new games, and editors have the final say on what we see and how we view it. In contrast, GameTrove.net allows the developers themselves to post their titles, and the users can then decide which games are actually worth the time to play them. This developer/user relationship is important, because the back and forth communication can greatly help to improve the games that developers release. The games on this site may never reach the Super Mario Brothers level with the public, but chances are that you’ll find something to entertain you. Besides, who cares who made the game as long as it’s good.
