Do you enjoy flying?
I have to tell you, I love settling back in a seat in a not-too-crowded airliner and just relaxing while the pilot throws me back in my seat with acceleration down that runway and into the air.
Curiously, though, even though the aviation bug runs in my family (my father was a private pilot, my brother flew for FedEx), I was never particularly enamored with the idea of flying a plane myself.
However, there is a significant portion of the population that DOES have a passion for flying, and there is a smaller group that loves flying aircraft classified as experimental.
Today’s Family First site is called The Official Guide to Experimental Aircraft. Here’s its mission:
The Official Guide to Experimental Aircraft is an online aviation guide to experimental aircraft, homebuilt kits, and plans. Aircraft models are categorized by group, including conventional airplanes, pusher aeroplanes, warbird replica, light planes, ultralights, trikes, powered parachutes and paragliders, sailplanes, rotorcraft, gyroplanes, and amphibious aircraft.
If you’re serious about experimental aircraft, this site is for you. For instance, the Aircraft Guide lists at least a couple of hundred aircraft manufacturers, complete with details about what they make, how to contact them, and a link to their Web site if they have one.
The Library is likewise a valuable resource, providing such information as what the regulations are regarding making your own aircraft, the finer point of horizontal tail stability (I suspect that’s pretty important!), and how to control your experimental craft (EXTREMELY important!).
So if you’re an experimental aircraft buff, you’ll love today’s Family First site. And even if you never really thought about the concept, you’ll still find today’s site a fascinating visit.
