Heroes Of The Planet

Amory and L. Hunter Lovins are the husband and wife team who pioneered the concept of the “negawatt,” the idea that energy suppliers can serve the goals of environmental protection if permitted to trade in energy savings. Amory Lovins sees harnessing market forces to promote resource efficiency as the solution to a variety of social, economic, and environmental problems.

The Lovins’ team founded the Rocky Mountain Institute, a Colorado-based resource policy think tank in 1982. The Rocky Mountain Institute Web site contains practical information available for download in PDF format.

An excellent article by the Lovins team on the deficiencies of current American energy policy can be found in a back issue of the American Prospect.

“Background Briefing” interviewed Amory Lovins in January 2001.

Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution, by Paul Hawken, Amory Lovins, and L. Hunter Lovins explores the opportunities for businesses in an era of approaching environmental limits and the companion Web site has excerpts, links and further information.
