Registry Booster: The Red Bull For Windows?

If you run Windows on your Intel PC and have been doing so for, oh, two weeks, then your registry probably has some junk in it that needs some attention. Ever since Windows 95 was introduced, Microsoft’s great way of keeping track of programs and settings has turned out to be not that great thing MS had hoped it would be. Problems come from programs that do not clean up their registry entries when un-installed, from spyware, autorun applications, and just about anything else that touches your operating system. Heck, you don’t even have to be a power user like me to get what we call “bit rot” on your PC. Uniblue says that “94% of computers have corrupt, unused, and possibly harmful files,” on their systems. Ouch! So what’s one to do? Well what do you do after you’ve played a glorious soccer game in the rain? Clean, man, clean! And Uniblue wants to clean your registry with its Registry Booster.
I gave the suds a go on my Windows XP Pro box two weeks ago. I’ve got all sorts of stuff on this install and figured that if Registry Booster was as good as it said it was, my nearly four minute boot up time and lingering issues would have to be fixed. But truth is, I was nervous ’cause, you know, my life’s also on this computer and if your registry stops working, so does your computer. But Uniblue told me to fear not as it was safe to use and it even makes a complete backup of your registry before it gets into dirt. So I gave it a go and off it went.
Its Advanced Error Detection Technology immediately found problems. Man, I don’t think I had even released my finger from the left mouse button before it found its first problem. It kept tagging on issues to the scan results section until it finally stopped. The scan was impressively quick and if it wasn’t for the 481 found problems, I would have sworn it didn’t work. I cautiously let Registry Booster clean and correct the nearly 500 issues and then I rebooted my system.
Oh man, what would happen? I was crossing my fingers and praying Uniblue’s claim of “dramatically enhance(d) performance and maximize(d) system stability” was in fact truth and not just PR talk. Well remember how I said my system would easily take four minutes to boot? After a quick Uniblue cleaning, I shaved over 30 seconds off my boot time. Nothing massive, but man, in the Windows world, that’s a lot! After the initial boot up, all my start-up applications came up as usual (seemed like about the same) and no errors were to be found when I opened any of my other daily used programs. Sweet!
After a week of working on my computer, I found no adverse affects and even noticed peppier launching of Firefox when I clicked on a link in Outlook, something that had been suffering from latency prior to the registry cleaning. As to the rest of the system, everything seemed to be working just fine.
Now should you give Registry Booster a free 30-day try? Well, maybe since Uniblue tells me that, “On average, almost each PC will have about 150+ errors on them due to registry fragmentation, and corrupt, unused, missing, orphaned or obsolete entries.” Remember, I had 481, so you might do yourself some good to nab this system utility and give it a try!
NOTE: The free trial will only clean and fix the first 15 found errors. You will need to purchase the full version to clean further found problems.
