Secure Your Computer When In Standby Mode (XP)

You can configure your computer to go into stand-by mode after a period of inactivity. This reduces the power consumption of your computer. Bringing your computer out of standby mode is as simple as moving the mouse.

For increased security, you can configure your computer to prompt you for your password when it comes out of standby mode. This way another user cannot bring your computer out of standby and use the computer under your user account.

To configure this option, open the Control Panel by clicking the Start button and selecting Control Panel. Double click the Power Options applet and select the Advanced tab. Select the Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby and click OK.
