Perseus is a free online archive of digital texts from ancient Greece and Rome - and more recently from other cultures and periods. Subsequent growth of the library into the Roman era and the Renaissance and modern times has occoured as funding became available. The service has a excellent search interface.
All 80,000 objects in the Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology have been digitized and put on the Internet; the objects are actually housed in the Science Library of University College London.
And while we’re on the subject of such things, the Internet Ancient History Source Book is another excellent resource for those who seek to delve (albeit virtually) into the history of our ancient ancestors.
