Install Internet Authentication Service (Server 2003)

A network may require more than one remote access server. Since remote access servers are managed individually, this can pose to be difficult. The solution is to implement a RADIUS server to centralize the authentication and accounting of remote access connections.

Windows Server 2003 (and Windows 2000) includes its own version of a RADIUS server known as Internet Authentication Services (IAS). IAS can be installed using the Add or Remove Programs applet found within the Control Panel. You can install the software using the steps that are listed below:

  1. Click Start, point to Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs.

  2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. From the list of Windows Components, click Networking Services and then click the Details button.
  4. From the list of networking services subcomponents, select Internet Authentication Service.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Finish.
