The librarian received some swell follow up to the items on Full Text Classic Books and Science Podcasts.
An Information Specialist, Jeffery McCreary, brought my attention to a labor of love called ATHENA. Jeffery writes that it is “A wonderful resource for those hard to find books… sometimes… in original languages” and “a bit of a meta-index for texts, with connections to other collections.” ATHENA has books in other European languages and useful science links as well.
The Alex Catalogue of Electronic Text is a collection of “great” American and English literature as well as Western philosophy that been around since it was hosted on a something called gopher in 1993. Apart from the catalogue, there are published articles, travel logs, descriptions of software applications and presentations from Infomotions, the host.
Now as regards science podcasts, next on the list after the venerable ones I mentioned last time are Star Stuff and Dr. Karl, both via the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
