Podding For Geniuses

Science: don’t we just love it? When you consider the grand sweep of it, the only question that can’t be answered is just how school teachers managed to make it seem so boring to so many. Not me; I’m the nerd who hung around the library reading “Flight International” magazines, so one of my big Web pleasures is listening to great minds on the cutting edge. Here are a few of my favourites; professional broadcasts that started life boiling off the filaments of vacuum tubes.
The Science Show with Robyn Williams, from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, is one of the longest running programs on Australian radio and a big hit, podding wise. It’s classy stuff that goes for an hour and the ABC usually has the last four episodes up at one time.
Ockham’s Razor is a short fifteen minutes of science, history, or philosophy that also comes from the ABC - and what can I say? - it’s great stuff, guys.
Quirks and Quarks has, for a quarter of a century, brought its listeners to the cutting edge of scientific inquiry and is rated the most enjoyed program on Canadian Public Radio.
The Engines of Our Ingenuity tells the story of how our culture was formed by human creativity. Heard nationally in the U.S. on Public Radio and produced by KUHF-FM Houston, the current episode is number 2047.
I’d love to hear about any other primo quality science podcasts, and for now, it’s goodbye from Kevin McKern in Sydney.
