A trip to the supermarket was the last big thing we did in 2005. But it wasn’t just any old supermarket run. This was a tactically-executed dual-cart affair. New Year’s Eve was the last day to take advantage of the big payoff in our local supermarket’s loyalty program. And take advantage, we did… to the tune of over $200 in free groceries. As the saying goes, “it’s not what you make, it’s what you keep…”
Honestly, I’m not all that fond of our local supermarket. But its annual year-end coupon deal is a winner.
The supermarket’s loyalty program keeps track of purchases during November and December. The more you spend at the market during those months, the larger the discount you receive on your year end shopping spree. By virtue of our purchases, we earned a 40% discount off that final shopping trip.
I suppose there are privacy concerns for some. To tell the truth, I’m not all that keen on the fact that Big Brother knows that I prefer Jif to Skippy. (Or was that Skippy over Jif?) But like many folks, I’ll give up a bit of that privacy to save a few bucks.
Of course in this case, it was more than a few…
