Recordable CD Or DVD Contains Data That Appears Blank In XP

When you insert a recordable CD or DVD that contains data in your CD or DVD recorder (burner) drive, you receive a message that is similar to the following:

(drive_letter:) Windows can perform the same action each time you insert a disk or connect a device with this kind of file:

Blank CD

What do you want Windows to do?

Open writable CD folder / Take no action

This message appears even though the CD or the DVD contains data and is not blank.

This problem may occur when you use certain third-party Image Mastering API (IMAPI) CD-burning software to record data to a recordable CD or DVD. The problem occurs because the IMAPI CD-burning software changes the sub-header bits on the disc to a format that Microsoft Windows XP cannot read correctly.

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Windows XP. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

I tried this but it never seemed to help. I burned this using Nero before I reformated my Hard Drive now it is not readable. It only seems to affect DVD-R’s though +R’s and -RW’s and CD-R/RW that were burned with the same burner seem to work fine.
