“We have no plans to.” (discontinue the iPod Classic)

I personally thought when I saw the capacity that is was for people looking for a portable hard drive and a mp3 player in one.

I agree here, I currently own an iPhone 3G (having to wait until my contract is over to update.) and as you say 1) don’t want to have any of the “extras” on my mp3 player, or pay extra either, 2) I have way too much music and need the 160 gb classic in order to fit all of it on! If apple did decide to relegate the iPod Classic to the history books it will be a sad day. However saying all this I do believe it does need a revamp in design, as it does look dated compared to the others. But I guess it would then need rebranding, as “Classic” sums it up!

I love the classic… I bought one last November even though I didn’t need the capacity, and I could have gotten a Black Friday deal on a cheaper and more capable iPod Touch. I still went with the Classic.

I know most people, especially kids my age (17), think the Classic is useless. I get criticized all the time – “Why would you waste your money on that when you could’ve got a Touch?”

People just think that more features is synonymous to being better. I bought the Classic because it’s a CLASSIC. That’s all I needed and wanted. Also, I didn’t want to be one of millions of others of iPod Touch owners. You gotta appreciate the classics!

I’m perfectly content with my decision, and I still like the 160 GB Classic more than any of the other iPod models. With smartphones these days I’m starting to think even the iPod Touch will seem obsolete soon. I use my iPad 2 for all my iOS needs :)

Not many people these days would consider buying the Classic because they’re so fascinated by the iPod touch and all the things it can do, and that’s why it will probably be discontinued, but I hope I’m wrong.

To be honest, I only bought my iPhone because it’s a phone which can play music. There by saving me money. If I had to choose, I would get an iPod classic. The larger storage and more direct usage is one of the biggest reasons to have one, because when you unlock an iPod, you have to type in the passcode (if there) tap the music app and so on.

Soo to me Classic > itouch

I hope not. It is what I have use as my dedicated music player at home and on holidays for the past 5 or 6 years whenever it was that it first put in an appearance. It contains my complete library of 70gb and of course that can only grow. I only use it for music so I would not want to pay for the whole kit-and-caboodle of an ipod touch or iphone. It also doubles as a hard-drive.
