Now that it’s a new year, we often find ourselves looking back on the previous year and all that happened during it. In the world of movies, the quality of the work that we paid a king’s ransom to see was mixed at best. There were definitely some horrible movies, but that should come as no surprise. For me, Aeon Flux and The Cave delivered so poorly that I found myself spending the majority of the time thinking about how much I’d rather be doing my taxes. While a percentage of the movies released did stink up the theaters that they were playing in, 2005 also gave us some of the best stories, scenes, and performances that have ever graced the silver screen. Renowned film critic Roger Ebert recently undertook the difficult task of naming Ebert’s Best 10 Movies of 2005.
You may not agree with everything that he says, but his list contains some solid contenders. You’ve likely already seen some of the movies on his list, and were probably blown away by them. Besides his cream of the crop selections, you’ll also find recommendations of other movies that you simply must watch if you’re a film fanatic. If you notice something that you haven’t considered viewing yet, maybe now’s the time to add it to your list of movies to see.
